The Principal Financial Group^® Civic Development Grant Program with National Garden Clubs, Inc.—Through May 2009
The Principal Financial Group^® Civic Development Grant Program is a project of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. under the sponsorship of the Principal Financial Group Foundation, Inc. Many projects have been sponsored since the start of the program, including plantings at libraries, schools, museums, parks, roadways, historic sites and more. The focus of the current phase of the program is “Let's Go Native,” supporting civic projects using local native plantings. The Principal Riverwalk
Many wonderful projects currently are underway to revitalize downtown Des Moines - aimed at strengthening the heart of the city in order to enhance the vitality of our entire community. The Principal Riverwalk will connect and unify all of that development. Connecting the east and west sides of downtown Des Moines through a series of lighted and landscaped walking paths and bridges, The Principal Riverwalk will tie together numerous amenities that line the river's banks. We also have opportunities to participate in localized community events that impact the lives of our employees and customers.
Principal Park—Through 2017
The Principal is proud to be the naming rights sponsor of the Iowa Cubs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Located at one end of The Principal Riverwalk, Principal Park anchors the area. Our financial contribution allowed us to help the Iowa Cubs complete stadium updates and renovations to make the stadium even more fan friendly, attractive and accessible.
