Principal Financial Group Opens New Wellness Office in Reading, Pennsylvania
Dec. 27, 2006 (Des Moines, Iowa) — The Principal Financial Group® announces the opening of a new office in Reading, Pa. The new location will serve as a hub for Principal Wellness Company in the East Coast region and will specialize in onsite health and wellness screenings including consultations, high-risk interventions and customized wellness programs for employers.
"This new office opening is evidence of the growing interest in wellness programs as a way for employers to engage their employees in health improvement activities," said Audrey Vaughn, second vice president of wellness and medical management at the Principal Financial Group. "As healthcare costs continue to grow, wellness programs like onsite health screenings, member consultation and education are valuable tools for employers. Research shows these programs go beyond reducing costs to actually improve employee retention and increase productivity."
Located at 110 Corporate Drive in Reading, Pa., the office will include both sales and service functions including serving as a central location for wellness screeners. The location was chosen due to its close proximity to several current clients and the opportunity to expand wellness programs to other employers in the region.
"Wellness activities like onsite health screenings empower employees to improve personal health while motivating them to make healthy lifestyle changes," noted Vaughn. "We work directly with employers to create a customized program that includes several different components to meets the needs of the employer and their specific employee population. Once the program is in place, we don't walk away, we continue working with the employer ongoing to monitor progress and encourage continued positive results."
As part of the wellness program, employers and their employees participate in onsite health and wellness screenings that include blood pressure checks, blood sugar readings, Body Mass Index testing and cholesterol checks. Each participant receives a Health Risk Analysis Report that provides specific feedback and recommendation. Following the screenings, the program continues to provide ongoing consultation, education and intervention for those at risk for a more serious condition.
