The Principal Financial Group to Hold Cookie Poll
November 2, 2006 (Des Moines, Iowa)
What:
With the midterm elections only a few weeks away, the Principal Financial Group® will conduct a "cookie poll" today to see which candidate employees believe will win the race for Iowa's governor. Employees vote by taking a cookie from the plate of the candidate for whom they plan to vote, this year, participants will choose between Republican candidate U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle and Democratic candidate Iowa Secretary of State Chet Culver.
The cookie poll began during the 1992 midterm elections. It has a history of accurately predicting election outcomes. During the 2004 presidential race, George Bush garnered 51 percent of the vote, John Kerry 48 percent and Ralph Nader roughly 1 percent. The results of the 2004 cookie poll were Bush with 52 percent of the poll, Kerry with 46 percent and Nader with 2 percent.
