Rain or Shine, Monumental Public Art Piece to Be Installed Along The Principal Riverwalk

8 a.m., Arrival and set-up of crane
8:45 a.m., Arrival of sculpture
9 a.m. - noon, Un-packing of pieces; drilling and setting of anchor bolts
1 - 5 p.m., Installation of base piece and subsequent assembly of other two pieces

The Principal Riverwalk, Long Look Garden (immediately west of Des Moines City Hall)
What:
"Untitled," by artist Joel Shapiro will be placed within the planned Long Look Garden.
"Untitled" (2001-03) by Joel Shapiro is a monumental work in cast bronze. Its dimensions are 20 feet high by 22 feet wide and 16 feet deep. The sculpture was purchased by Melva Bucksbaum and Mary Bucksbaum Scanlan and presented as a gift to the Des Moines Art Center to be placed along The Principal Riverwalk.
Shapiro's work is found in numerous museum collections around the world, including the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Gallery, Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. "Untitled" is the third of Shapiro's work to enter the Des Moines Art Center's Permanent Collections.
Sponsored by Pioneer, the stately Long Look Garden will cascade toward the river with terraced planter walls, formal landscaping and a grand staircase.
