The Principal Financial Group Announces New Chief Medical Officer for the Health Division
July 21, 2008 (Des Moines, IA) — Naim Munir, M.D. has been named to the newly created position of vice president and chief medical officer for the Principal Financial Group®. He will have direct oversight of all areas of medical management with a focus on prevention, quality and cost-effective care delivery.
"Dr. Munir brings not only extensive health care industry experience, but also a number of years working in family medicine, both of which are critical to this new role" said Dave Shafer, senior vice president of the health division of the Principal Financial Group. "As we continue to transform our health insurance business and drive better care for our members, Dr. Munir is a key addition to our leadership team."
Munir most recently served as executive medical director for quality and care management at Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey. Prior to that, he served as chief operating officer at Amerigroup Corporation of New Jersey and as vice president for health services at PacifiCare's Southwest region. He holds a medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his family practice residency at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill.
