Nervous U.S. Workers Looking for Ways to Spend Less and Save More
July 15, 2008 (Des Moines, IA) — Fifty-eight percent of U.S. workers think we're in a recession, according to The Principal Financial Well-Being IndexSM. Growing numbers of them are looking for ways to spend less and save more1. Now workers have a new Web site in addition to a magazine to find timely, financial tips and tools quickly and easily—at www.principal.com/planahead.
The Web site is a new online extension of Plan Ahead. Get Ahead. ®, the award-winning2 magazine from the Principal Financial Group®. The magazine provides financial education and retirement planning tips to some 1.8 million participants in retirement plans with services provided by The Principal®. Those participants can now go to the new Web site to learn even more and take action.
"Participants want online access to financial tools and education. They also want information that is pertinent their particular life stage," said Barrie Christman, vice president, Individual Investor Services at The Principal. "That's why our magazine and the new Web site offer user friendly and easy-to-understand tips and tools for workers at the beginning, middle and end of their careers."
Plan Ahead. Get Ahead. magazine comes in three versions, each based on a different life stage. Participants receive the issue that targets their age group; under 35, 35 to 50 or over 50. The new Web site complements the magazine by offering additional retirement planning and topical financial information targeted at the same life stages.
At the Plan Ahead. Get Ahead. Web site workers can quickly find answers to questions like:
- How can I develop a retirement plan?
- How can I save more money?
- How do I make my savings last throughout retirement?
- Should I bail out of the stock market?
- What financial moves should I make as a new parent?
- What can I do to cut my health care costs?
- Is there such a thing as "good" debt?
The online version of Plan Ahead. Get Ahead. also offers calculators and other tools to help workers make smart financial decisions. Workers who participate in their employer's retirement plan from The Principal, for example, can access their account information directly from the Web site. They also have access to My Principal® Edge Milestones, an interactive program that helps workers analyze their financial needs and develop a personalized action plan.
