The Principal Financial Group Named Among "Best Places to Work" by Computerworld
Company recognized for eighth consecutive year
June 16, 2009 (Des Moines, IA) — The Principal Financial Group® was ranked 33rd on the list of the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals. This marks the eighth consecutive year the company has been recognized by IDG's Computerworld magazine. Results were published in the June 15 issue and at computerworld.com.
The Principal was specifically noted for its flexible work programs, including compressed workweeks, job-sharing programs and telecommuting. Also noted was the company's volunteer time off (VTO) program, which allots each employee up to eight hours of paid time each year to volunteer for non-profit organizations and schools in the community.
"Especially in today's environment, The Principal is honored to be recognized again by Computerworld as a great place to work for IT professionals," said Gary Scholten, chief information officer and senior vice president of the Principal Financial Group. "While we can't control the financial environment, our IT and business leadership teams take seriously the need to provide a stimulating and rewarding workplace. We recognize that the ability to retain our talented, engaged group of IT professionals is critical to The Principal's continued success."
IDG's Computerworld annual "Best Places to Work in Information Technology" survey ranks the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, this year Computerworld surveyed more than 27,000 IT workers for the list, and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.
"To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it's not enough just to seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "The organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list sustain a dynamic work environment in which IT professionals keep their hands on the latest technologies and work on projects that are business critical. In the months and years ahead, IT is going to become a key accelerator of business growth."
