Wellness, Now the Perfect Fit for Growing Businesses

The Principal introduces tailored approach for workplace wellness programs

March 2, 2011 (Des Moines, IA) - As owners of growing businesses continue to rebuild after the financial crisis, improving the health of their employees may be one way to keep the bottom line moving in the right direction. A new workplace wellness program from The Principal®, designed specifically for small to medium-sized businesses, helps address unhealthy behaviors head on.

“Health care costs top the list of financial concerns of growing businesses, yet these businesses don’t always have access to the same resources available to larger companies. Our new wellness program is one of the first comprehensive, yet affordable programs designed specifically for these employers,” said Lee Dukes, president of Principal Wellness Company, a subsidiary of the Principal Financial Group®. “With the right wellness program in place, these businesses experience not only lower health care costs, but also greater productivity and employee engagement.”

The new wellness solution provides employers a complete, year-round plan including communication materials, and engagement and incentive strategies that meet the unique needs of small to medium-sized businesses. Wellness programs are designed to engage all employees and can even incorporate local activities. Employers receive a step-by-step guide to help them implement and manage their company program.

Key features include:

  • Preventive screening services with industry-leading accuracy
  • Health coaches who employees can contact to discuss their wellness
  • Online wellness portal designed to meet individual employee needs
  • Monthly communication available to employees on a wide variety of topics

“We see a real advantage to being a growing business when it comes to wellness. There’s often a close culture where things like wellness catch on more easily,” notes Dukes. “One of the most valuable aspects of any business is employees, so providing the right benefits to attract and retain those employees may be the best way to improve the health of the business.”
