Corporate Responsibility: In Business

Ethics

As a leader in the financial services industry, we take seriously our obligation to customers and our global communities to conduct business in a legal and ethical manner. Read our complete Code of Ethics.

In accordance with state and federal laws and regulations, it is our responsibility to take appropriate action when these situations are suspected or may occur. Our company does not tolerate, and takes aggressive action against, unethical conduct or fraud whether perpetrated by employees, customers, vendors, those who sell our products or others. Learn more about our policy on reporting unethical or fraudulent activity.

Governance

Ensuring the organization is governed well through effective, independent oversight of management and company operations has been an important part of our heritage and our success. Review our Corporate Governance practices.

Supplier Diversity

The Principal seeks business partners who can help improve our competitive edge in the global marketplace. We look for suppliers with a reputation for the same core values which are the basis for our company’s success: quality, customer service, strength and integrity.

We welcome minority and women-owned businesses to be considered as a supplier for The Principal under Supplier Diversity.

Investments

Green Investing

Principal Real Estate Investors quickly embraced the movement towards green buildings for properties we invest in on behalf of our clients. Green buildings have less impact on the natural environment and offer economic benefits that save our clients money in the long term.

We define and measure green features using the U.S. Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™. Currently, we have seven LEED Accredited Professionals on staff, as well as a green task force that focuses on building and operating practices that are environmentally sustainable.

Several of our properties currently under construction are in the process of obtaining LEED certification. We also have more than 40 existing properties that are under consideration for LEED-EB (Existing Building) certification. Overall, we believe the commercial real estate market is transitioning towards green buildings and believe the pace of this transition will accelerate as more people within the industry learn about the benefits associated with going green.

Women in Business

We understand that women are in integral part of business—now and in the future. Find out how we support women in business.
