Principal Bank, a member of the Principal Financial Group®, is an FDIC insured federal savings bank offering customers traditional and innovative banking products and services through the Internet, telephone personal bankers (available 7 AM to 9 PM (CST), seven days a week, 365 days a year), U.S. Mail and a nationwide network of ATMs.
Established in February 1998, Principal Bank was one of the first truly direct online banks approved and chartered by the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) as a federal savings bank.

Principal Bank serves customers living in the United States and U.S. citizens residing in other countries. While a primary focus is on solidifying and expanding financial relationships with customers of the Principal Financial Group, Principal Bank accommodates new customers with a wide variety of financial needs and income levels.
Access to the Bank
- Internet - Customers can access Principal Bank and perform bank transactions over the Internet through the bank's site at www.principalbank.com.
- Telephone - Principal Bank Personal Bankers are available 7 AM to 9 PM (CST), seven days a week to handle calls regarding financial transactions, answer customer questions, and assist customers with opening accounts. Customers can also receive account information and transfer funds via telephone through a voice automated system by calling 1.800.672.3343.
- ATM - Customers can use a national network of ATMs for banking transactions, with no fees from Principal Bank.
- VISA debit card - Customers can use this card instead of writing a check at any Visa merchant location.
- U.S. Mail - Customers can use the U.S. Mail for banking transactions and the bank pays the postage.
- Money Movement - Customers can transfer money between accounts at Principal Bank or those at other banks from their Principal Bank login.
