What type of overdraft protection is available?
Overdraft protection is provided in one of two ways for each day's occurrence:
Regular or Advantage Savings Account - the actual amount that the account is overdrawn is withdrawn from the available savings balance.
Principal Bank Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) - the actual amount that the account is overdrawn is withdrawn from the available line of credit.
How do I apply for overdraft protection?
To link existing accounts (Regular or Advantage Savings or Principal Bank HELOC) to your checking account, visit the Account Service section of Customer Service and click on the Overdraft Protection Request Form (PDF: 122 KB). Complete the information and send the form to the address below.

How do I access my overdraft protection?
Overdraft protection from a Principal Bank Regular or Advantage Savings account or Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) is available for paper check transactions, online billpayments and Internet funds transfers. In addition, HELOC accounts cover ATM or Debit card transactions.
Principal Bank will advance from both the Home Equity Line of Credit or the savings account specified in exact increments to cover overdrafts incurred on the specified checking account.
