Help: Creating a Profile

You can search for openings at the Principal Financial Group without creating a profile. Creating profiles allow you to apply for jobs, save jobs, save searches and view your applications and resumes.

How to create a profile

  1. From the Careers Login page, click “Create one now”
  2. Decide if you want to consent to do business electronically (Note: if you do not consent, you will not be able to continue)
  3. Create a username and password
  4. Choose a “Security Phrase Question” from the drop-down list and answer the question
  5. Click “Submit”
  6. Click “Continue” to go to the Career Tools page

Q. What do I do if I forgot my username?

A. Follow these steps:

  1. Click “Forgot your username?” link
  2. Enter the e-mail address that you used when you created your profile and click “Submit”
  3. A message will appear indicating that your username has been sent to the e-mail address you entered
  4. Click “Continue” button, and you will be returned to the Login page

Q. What do I do if I forgot my password?

A. Follow these steps to reset your password:

  1. Click “Forgot your password?”
  2. Enter your username and click “Continue”
  3. Enter the answer to the ”Security Phrase Question” and click “Continue”
  4. Enter a new password
  5. Re-enter the new password and click “Submit”
  6. A message will appear indicating that your password has been changed
  7. Click “Proceed to Login”

Q. How do I change my password?

A. Follow these steps to change your password:

  1. Login by entering your current username and password
  2. From the Career Tools page, click “Change your password” at the bottom of the page
  3. Enter your current password
  4. Enter a new Password
  5. Re-enter the new Password
  6. A message will appear indicating that your password has been changed
  7. Click on the “Return to Career Tools home” link

Q. Do I have to create a profile if I just want to review the job openings?

A. You do not have to create a profile to view job openings. If you wish to apply for a job, you will have to create a profile.

Q. How do I change the contact information in my profile?

A. Follow these steps to change your contact information:

  1. Login by entering your username and password and click "Continue"
  2. Click “Edit your contact information” at the bottom of the page
  3. Make the necessary changes to your name, address, phone number(s), and/or e-mail address
  4. Click “Save changes”
  5. You will be returned to the Career Tools page

Q. I don’t have an e-mail address, what can I do?

A. An e-mail address is required for us to notify you of the status of your application There are a number of Internet sites that allow you to have an e-mail account at no charge.

Q. Where do I go to apply for a position if I don't have a computer?

A. You can use a variety of computers that may be available to you:

  • Our recruiting office located at 650 8th St., Des Moines, IA. 50309
  • The Public Library in your city (Des Moines, Urbandale, etc.) has computers available for public use
  • Iowa Workforce Development and other job search agencies may have computers

Q. If I only submit a resume, without applying for a specific position, will I be contacted by Principal Financial Group when a job matching my skills opens up?

A. A recruiter could discover your profile when searching the database for matches to the job qualifications; however, recruiters use a variety of methods to fill jobs. We encourage you to search and apply for positions you meet the qualifications for and have an interest in. If you are unable to find a position at this time, please consider using our Job Search E-mail Alert to be automatically notified about new postings matching criteria you set.

Q. Will I receive unsolicited communications at my e-mail address?

A. No, your e-mail address will be used only for the purposes of informing you of the status of your application or for sending job alerts if you have requested that service

Q. Is the information I provide confidential when I create my profile and attach a resume?

A. Yes. Please read our Privacy details for more information.

Q. Is the information I provide secure when I create my profile and attach a resume?

A. Yes, you create a user name and password. No other applicant can create the same username and for added security we have included a Security Phrase Question.
