Accounting/Actuarial Employee Profile
Business Area: Retirements and Investor Services
Degree: Math and Actuary
Years at The Principal: 10 years
Working at The Principal has changed my life on a personal and professional level. Several years ago, I met my wife here and now we’re the proud parents of an energetic toddler. But, that’s not all. I’ve had a great career that’s been filled with various experiences, accomplishments and development opportunities.
As an actuary, I’ve held four positions in two different business units each stretching me in a new direction. I began my career as an actuarial assistant in our Health Division, pricing optional coverage for medical plans.
After a few years, I became a senior actuarial associate within our Retirement and Investments area. There, I helped with pricing and reserving Guaranteed Interest Contracts. I later became an associate actuary where I led an actuarial team that priced new and existing retirement products.
Today, I’m a senior actuary overseeing the financial reporting and projections for a segment of our retirement business. This includes forecasting, analyzing results and preparing information for senior management as well as our quarterly earnings reports.
I’ve enjoyed working at The Principal because of the numerous development opportunities. I’ve had the opportunity to work in several roles and have also become an accredited actuary along the way. But, what’s more enticing is the chance to learn. For someone like me with a natural curiosity about things, it’s a great fit because I’m continually learning and, in turn, helping our organization become better, faster and stronger.
