Jim's Story
I believe my success at The Principal can be attributed to many things, including my ability to maintain an open mind and a flexible approach to daily challenges, respecting others and their opinions, being confident and assertive with my thoughts, and having a willingness to do what it takes to “get the job done.”
As a senior financial accounting analyst, I analyze and report actual and forecast expenses and serve as a conduit between our corporate management team and the management in our business segments. Prior to this position, I was a financial accounting leader, overseeing the budget team in the expense management department.
The Principal has offered many opportunities for me to build existing skills and learn new ones. By transitioning into my current role, I was able to apply my financial knowledge in a different capacity while gaining more exposure to other areas of the company.
Beyond my specific job responsibilities, I’ve been part of a number of other company initiatives and opportunities, including the facilitation of education sessions for our accounting community on expense management, budgeting and analysis topics. In addition, I’ve been able to participate in company recruiting efforts, and have improved my communication skills by taking part in Toastmasters.
