Kristen's Story
The Principal is unique because it has the benefits of a large company, but the culture of a small one. Even though I work for a global organization, I don’t feel like a number – I know I’m a valued contributor.
Early in my career, I was asked to take an account executive position and was later promoted to an account executive director. After a few years, I became a retirement resource consultant – implementing our Retire Secure program in New York City. Then, following a personal move, I was able to stay at The Principal and work on a number of projects that prepared me for a position as a regional education director. Now, I manage a team of professionals in the Southeast that provides one-on-one education to retirement plan participants.
For me, the opportunities have been abundant. In just 10 years, I’ve been in five account management-related positions from Boston to Dallas to Charlotte and a few other places in between. Plus, I’ve had the chance to travel, live in new places and continue to advance my career.
In the midst of all of this, I’ve been able to complete my master’s degree with the help of the company’s Educational Assistance Program. The pursuit of my master’s wouldn’t have been possible without the support from my leadership. To me, it reinforces the close-knit and caring culture that creates a great place to work.
