Mark's Story
I have an insatiable appetite for learning and a desire to understand things outside of the work I’m doing. I’m willing to question the way things have always been done and challenge the status quo. Those are just a few ways I add value to The Principal.
As an actuary, I lead a pricing team that handles new product development for our Individual Life business. We price new products, balancing competitivenessand profitability.
Prior to joining the Individual Life actuarial pricing team, I completed two rotations as an actuarial student. The first rotation was in Medical Rating & Analysis. There, I worked on pricing our medical products and tracked increased claims costs by market from year-to-year. My second rotation was in the Individual Life business where I priced new products.
I’ve been able to complete my FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation in two years, thanks to the company’s great actuarial student program. I’ve also been able to partner with Human Resources Recruiting to act as a liaison with the University of Iowa to help attract new actuarial students.
