Michelle's Story
As the saying goes... the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Eight years ago, I left The Principal to pursue another opportunity. It didn’t take me long to realize how much I missed the company’s culture and values. I returned after a year.
As is the case with most of us, I’ve had several changes in my personal life, which impacted my job at The Principal. In those instances, I talked with my leaders to determine if I could continue to do the job with some flexibility. I was able to work remotely from home for an extended period of time.
I began my career as a disability consultant in Des Moines, Iowa and Salt Lake City, Utah. In that role, I provided vocational rehabilitation services to claimants who had employer-sponsored disability benefits from The Principal. I also worked as an ADA/FMLA (Americans with Disabilities Act/Family Medical Leave Act) consultant administering the company’s ADA/FMLA programs. Today, I lead a team that administers disability job accommodations and leave programs.
My career has taken several paths over the years. I’ve had the chance to work in various locations, work part-time, work in a business unit and in a corporate support area. Additionally, I’ve been in individual contributor and leadership roles. As business needs continue to change, I'm excited about new directions in my career at The Principal.
