I credit the company’s focus on wellness to improving my own health. I’ve run in seven marathons, participated in several triathlons and am simply more active than I used to be. At The Principal, we’re encouraged to be wise healthcare consumers and take ownership of our health. And, they give us the tools and resources to make that happen.
When I’m not running or working out, I’m continually monitoring and developing our legal privacy requirements, setting company policy and providing direction, guidance and support to all of our business units on the topic. But, that’s only been in the last seven years.
The rest of my career includes an assortment of roles in various business areas. I began my career as a management trainee of policy issues within our individual insurance business. Then, I became a manager within the Individual Accounting area, overseeing the prompt and accurate balancing of premium payments. I later became manager of pacific coast services, managing the underwriting and administration areas for that region. I moved to our group insurance business as a manager helping improve our Group Universal Life product and services.
From there, I became an international operations consultant within Principal International, Inc., where I worked with member companies to develop and implement products. While in that position, I had the opportunity to travel and work internationally in Argentina, Chile and Indonesia. Later, I became a market director in our group, non-medical division.
I’ve had quite a ride. And, what’s even better is that I’ve been able to change roles, career paths, departments and business areas all right here at The Principal.
