Scholarships

Helping people is what we do at The Principal. And, with development as one of our core values, we think education is important. And, cost shouldn’t be a factor to holding students back. That’s why we offer several scholarships to students.

Learn more about each of the scholarships we have available, including the qualification criteria and how to apply.

  • The Principal Edge Scholarship for Excellence
  • Replaces the Annual Achievement Scholarship. For dependents, under age 25, of part-time and full-time employees of The Principal in all majority owned U.S. and International offices and locations who have a minimum of one year of employment with the Principal Financial Group as of the application deadline.

In an effort to reduce expenses, we will not award this scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year. Please check back fall 2009 for the 2010-2011 school year.

  • The Phyllis R. Johnson Scholarship
  • Dependents or relatives of an employee of The Principal who are incoming freshmen at the University of Iowa are eligible to receive an $800 scholarship in memory of Phyllis R. Johnson.

  • The Principal Scholars Program
  • The program includes a $5,000 scholarship and optional paid summer internship.

  • The Principal Wellness Scholarship
  • Indiana college students pursuing a career in the health/wellness industry may be eligible to apply for one of two $2,500 scholarships available per year.

  • The Principal Leadership Conference
  • High performing college freshmen may qualify to attend this two day conference in Des Moines. Attendees will be immersed in the professional world, network with qualified employees, develop leadership skills and be entered for a chance to win a $1,500 scholarship.

  • The Information Technology Scholarship
  • If you’re a high school senior in the state of Iowa with a 3.25 GPA who plans to pursue a Computer Science, MIS, CIS, Computer Programming, or related field of study at an accredited college or university, then this is your chance to receive a $2,500 Information Technology Scholarship.
