The Power of Wellness Programs

The power of wellness programs was highlighted in the fourth quarter 2008 Principal Well-Being IndexSM.  The study found:

  • 43 percent of respondents indicated that a wellness program encourages them to work harder and perform better.
  • 44 percent agreed that a wellness program encourages them to stay with their current employer.
  • 45 percent said their family benefited the most financially from the reduced health-care costs associated with wellness.

Employees also believe that wellness programs can be effective in reducing health-care costs.  The Principal Well-Being Index found over half of the respondents believed wellness benefits offered by their employer can be successful in reducing health-care costs.  As a result, employees believe that wellness is a valuable benefit.
