How do I Change Ownership on My Mutual Fund Account?

If you change your name, want to add someone to your account as co-owner, or take someone off of your account you will need to change your account registration.

If any shareholder(s) are deceased or the account is registered in the name of a trust, guardianship, conservatorship, Uniform Transfer to Minor's Act, or company, additional documents may be required.

If the circumstances for your change in ownership are not listed or if you have additional questions please call the Client Contact Center at 800.222.5852.

Changing the Account Registration

  • To Change a name on your account, you need:
    - a Stock Power signed both ways (old name and new name)
    - a signature guarantee on the Stock Power
  • To add an owner to your account, you need:
    - a Stock Power signed by the current owner(s)
    - a signature guarantee on the Stock Power
    - a new application for the new owner
  • To remove an owner on your account, you need:
    - a letter of instruction signed by the person requesting to be removed
    - a signature guarantee on the letter

Please note: if the person requesting to be removed is the first owner on the account, a new application is also required.

What is a Signature Guarantee?

A signature guarantee is a warranty by the guarantor that the signature is genuine and that the person signing is competent and authorized to sign. The signature guarantee requirement protects the shareholder(s) account against unauthorized transactions.

The signature(s) must be guaranteed by a commercial bank, trust company, credit union, savings and loan association, national securities exchange member or brokerage firm.

A SIGNATURE FROM A NOTARY PUBLIC IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
