What's Your Profile?
Are you an investment risk-taker? Or would you rather play it safe? Find out with the Investor Profile Quiz.
A big part of deciding which types of investments to select is determining how comfortable you are with risk. Although nearly every investment involves some level of risk, some investment options involve more risk — sometimes with a greater potential for reward — than others.
The key is finding the balance of risk and reward that makes you comfortable. One way to find the right mix of investments for you is by taking our Investor Profile Quiz.
The quiz asks you eight simple questions about your feelings on investing risks versus potential rewards. For example, the quiz helps you consider:
- Whether protecting retirement savings from loss is more important to you than potentially earning higher returns
- How you might respond if you experience investment losses
- How you feel about the rate of inflation and the effect it may have on retirement savings
- What amount of volatility (how much the value of a portfolio rises and falls) you’re comfortable accepting
Based on your answers — and the number of years you have until retirement — the quiz matches you with one of five investor profiles. Each profile gives you a suggested breakdown of asset categories, such as fixed income, short-term fixed income, large U.S. equity, small/mid U.S. equity, and international equity.
