Legislative Update Information for Defined Benefit Plans

Welcome to the Legislative Update archive. Here you'll find archived recent communications regarding legislative and political issues impacting the retirement plan industry and, specifically, defined benefit plans.

We are - and will continue to be - actively involved in the legislative process to voice our plan sponsors' concerns, provide alternatives, and educate members of Congress and their staffs of the impact of their proposals.

August 2006 - Status updated on Pension Reform legislation.

May 2006 - Status updated on Pension Reform legislation.

May 2006 - Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued an exposure draft to improve financial reporting for defined benefit pension and other postretirement plans (e.g., retiree medical plans). Our retirement professionals and a guest from Price Waterhouse Coopers used their defined benefit expertise to summarize the changes.

Dec. 2005 - Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) announced a project that could change the amount of pension and other post-retirement liability that many companies carry on their books.
