About The Principal Riverwalk
Greater Des Moines citizens and community leaders agree we are on the verge of greatness - of making Greater Des Moines a vibrant and inviting place to live, work and play. Many wonderful projects currently are under way to revitalize downtown Des Moines - aimed at strengthening the heart of the city in order to enhance the vitality of our entire community. One project strives to unify all of the development under way and that’s been done up to this point: The Principal Riverwalk.
The Principal Riverwalk will connect the east and west sides of downtown Des Moines through a series of lighted and landscaped walking paths and bridges. Anchored on the north by a signature pedestrian bridge at the Center Street Dam and on the south by the renovated railroad bridge south of Court Avenue, the riverwalk will tie together numerous amenities that line the river’s banks, creating one cohesive riverfront experience.
