Meet the South Florida Business Center Team

Lou joined the Principal Financial Group^® (The Principal^®) in 2003 and quickly developed a flourishing business center. The growth of the organization is a particular component of Lou's present role as Regional Managing Director of the South Florida Business Center for The Principal. He accomplishes this by recruiting competent professionals who can help meet client expectations and assist them with making wealth management strategy decisions in a challenging and rapidly changing marketplace.

With over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, in the field and in management, he has developed special knowledge in the intricate aspects of retirement, estate and business planning. In addition to his extensive experience, Lou has earned his ChFC^®, CLU^® and LUTCF designations. He is a Financial Representative, Princor Registered Representative, and Financial Advisor.

After many years of being exposed to the ever-changing dynamics and fast pace of a global investment community, Lou has come to realize that his business has always been that of building relationships and helping people set and achieve their overall goals.

Currently he is the President of the Society of Financial Services Professionals, Southeast Florida Chapter, and he is also a member of NAIFA and GAMA. Barrionuevo also serves in various capacities in professional civic organizations such as the West Broward Estate Planning Council, Marine Industries Association South Florida, and the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He volunteers and supports local and international charitable organizations such as the AJC Children's Foundation.

As Managing Director, Shannon is responsible for overseeing a top-notch team of Financial Services Representatives and Financial Advisors. She is also responsible for recruiting agents to the firm.

Shannon brought over 17 years of experience in the financial services industry when she joined the Principal Financial Group^® South Florida Business Center in 2004. Since then she has assisted Regional Managing Director Lou Barrionuevo in achieving a 900% increase in sales production for the business center.

In addition to Managing Director, Shannon is a Registered Representative and Investment Advisor Representative with Princor Financial Services Corporation and a Financial Services Representative of Principal Life Insurance Company. She is also a three-time Management Achievement Round Table (MART) qualifier.

Shannon holds the following securities registrations and insurance licenses:

Ann came to the Principal Financial Group®, South Florida with 30 years of experience. She supervises the daily functions of her admin staff and also oversees and maintains control of cases once they are sent to the home office for underwriting and placement. She coordinates functions for our office in regards to recruiting events, seminars and assists Lou Barrionuevo, the Regional Managing Director.

Cindy joined the Principal Financial Group^® in 2007 as Marketing Consultant with the South Florida Business Center. In this role she works closely with the Business Center Financial Services Representatives on their individual marketing plans and activities. She also plays a key role in Management promoting the Principal brand in the south Florida area.

Cindy graduated from Juniata College in 1985 with a Bachelors Degree in Communications and French. In addition to five years experience in Financial Services, she has worked in various aspects of sales and marketing in diverse fields such as Advertising and Sales Promotion, Corporate HealthCare Administration, and Manufacturing. She has earned the Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) designation, is a member of NAIFA and serves on the Board of Directors for the Southeast Florida Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.

Cindy lives in Boca Raton with her fiancé and Rottweiler. She is the Secretary of the Gulfstream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue organization, an advocate for Alzheimer's Foundation, and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She enjoys all sorts of adventures traveling the world when she has free time.

In 2004 Maria made the transition to financial services as a recruiter for the Principal Financial Group^®, South Florida Business Center. Maria has an educational background in Criminal Justice and Paralegal.

As a recruiter, her focus is on assisting the managers in building the organization with qualified registered representatives. This is an ongoing effort on her part, through sponsorship and resume searching to come across the right candidate.

In her free time, Maria enjoys spending time with family and friends. Maria and her family live in Weston, FL with their pet yorkie, Duncan.

Maria is working on obtaining her 215 license and will work towards her FINRA Series 6 registration in the near future. 

Mike is the Development Director at the Principal Financial Group^®, South Florida Business Center. Mike came from a successful 13-year career at MetLife and two years as a Financial Consultant with Washington Mutual Bank in Miami Beach. He joined the Principal Financial Group in 2003. During his years in the financial services business, Mike has qualified for many company and industry awards, including becoming a Qualified Member of the Million Dollar Round Table in 1994.

Mike attended The City College of New York, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1971. Prior to his 20 years in the financial services industry, he was a partner in a family owned business that manufactured children's sportswear in the Miami area. After 18 years, he changed careers to become one of the leading agents at MetLife in the South Miami area.

Mike is very active in his community, serving on various Boards of Trustees and doing volunteer work in the Greater Miami area for the past 39 years.
