Katelyn's Story On Braving The Unknown

My team has been absolutely fantastic to work with. My leader walked me through how we ran reports and why we were obtaining the information so that I gained background information while learning. He has given me a significant amount of responsibility and trust to make my own recommendations and decisions based off the analysis I’ve run.

I was concerned that I would be kept to very specific tasks but have been able to try different areas and different positions throughout my time here with job shadows and overview sessions of other departments and units.

I was pushed to work in a position I knew nothing about and had to somewhat brave the unknown, but am so glad that I did. Through this experience I have been shown an aspect of the business world I did not know existed, and I love it!

Katelyn's background

Community College/University attended: Iowa State University

Major/Minor/Emphasis of study: Accounting/Finance

The best or worst thing that happened during their internship at The Principal: I was able to see properties we own and that I work on daily while on a personal trip to Washington, D.C. My leader helped me coordinate with property managers and leasing agents out east and set up times to meet with them to tour the sites. I loved it!

Experiences with other employees during their internship: My team has been absolutely fantastic to work with (East Team Asset Management). My leader would walk me through how we ran reports and why we were obtaining the information so that I gained background information while learning. He has given me a significant amount of responsibility and trust to make my own recommendations and decisions based off the analysis I’ve run. My team as a whole is very close and they work together frequently. They love to get a lot of work done but also unwind and have fun, too! I could not have asked for a better team or a greater experience working in Asset Management.
