Meet the North Florida Business Center Team
R. Daryl Holton, CLU®, ChFC® - Regional Managing Director
As Regional Managing Director of the North Florida Business Center, Daryl Holton utilizes his knowledge and experience to instruct and mentor new advisors. He joined the Principal Financial Group® in 1986 as an advisor in the North Central Florida Business Center and was promoted to field management in 1991. He is a nine time qualifier for the Principal Financial Group's Management Achievement Round Table and served as a member of the Principal® Field Leaders Group.
Daryl has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) professional designations from the American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and completed the Agency Management Training Course. With over 28 years of experience in the financial services industry Daryl works with his clients to identify, prioritize and obtain their personal and business financial goals. He specializes in business strategies and estate planning. Daryl Holton is a Registered Representative and Investment Advisor Representative of Princor Financial Services Corporation. He has obtained the series 7, 24, 53, and 66 registrations with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Daryl serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Northeast Florida Chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals. He is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and GAMA International. He has achieved the International Management Award - Gold. Additionally, he is a parishioner of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, a member of The First Coast YMCA, Riverside Avondale Preservation and an alumnus of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Jacksonville University. He and his wife of over 32 years, Cathy, live in Jacksonville, Florida. They have two daughters, Rachel and Caitlin.

Jason Sanders - Managing Director
As a Managing Director in the North Florida Business Center, Jason Sanders utilizes his knowledge and experience to lead and develop new advisors. Jason joined the Principal Financial Group® in 2009 as a financial professional and was promoted to field leadership in 2015.
During his career with Principal®, he has been recognized as a leader by earning the Pacesetter Award. He was also selected to be in the Emerging Leaders Program and successfully completed the program in 2013. Jason is a Registered Representative and Investment Adviser Representative of Princor Financial Services Corporation. He has obtained the FINRA series 7, 63, and 65 securities registrations.
Upon graduation from St. Johns Country Day School, Jason received a scholarship to play collegiate baseball. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. Jason returned to Jacksonville and earned his Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of North Florida. He is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) where he sits on the Board of Directors and a founding member of the Nocatee Rotary. Additionally Jason is a Member of San Jose Church of Christ.
Jason Sanders is a lifelong resident of the Greater Jacksonville area and he currently resides in Ponte Vedra, FL with his wife Sally and Daughter Iley.

Lawrence D. Smith, CLU®, ChFC® - Development Director
As Development Director of the North Florida Business Center of the Principal Financial Group®, Lawrence Smith utilizes his knowledge and experience to mentor and develop new financial professionals. He joined Principal® in 1995 as a financial professional and moved into a Field Leadership position. He is a two-time qualifier for both Premier Club and Management Achievement Round Table.
Lawrence has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) professional designations from The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. With over 38 years of experience in the financial services industry, Lawrence works with new financial professionals in developing and mentoring them for success in the personal and business markets. He is a Registered Representative and Investment Adviser Representative of Principal Securities, Inc. He has obtained the Series 6, 26, 63, and 65 securities registrations with FINRA.
Lawrence has served as a member, Past President, and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals. Additionally, he is a parishioner of San Jose Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past group leader of the Galloway Running Program.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Potsdam.
He and his wife, Tanya, have lived in Jacksonville, Florida for 14 years. They have one daughter, Alexandria and two sons, Stephen and Cody.
Shirley A. Cody, ACS - Operations Manager
Shirley Cody brings many years of experience in the financial services industry since joining the Principal Financial Group® in 1977. As Operations Manager of the North Florida Business Center, Shirley manages the daily operations of the business center, supervises and trains staff, provides pre-sale and post-sale assistance to our business center financial professionals, and supports our management team in the recruiting, selection and development of new associates. She has served for many years on the company's Operations Manager Advisory Council and serves as a mentor within our company. Prior to her current position as Operations Manager, she worked with our independent distribution channel as Brokerage Sales Manager.
Shirley is Life and Health licensed in the State of Florida, holds the FINRA Series 6 and 26 securities registrations, and has earned the Associate Customer Service professional designation from the Life Office Management Association.
Shirley is actively involved in her church's Nursing Home Outreach, Bread Ministry, and does volunteer work with two of Jacksonville's homeless missions (Trinity Rescue Mission and City Rescue Mission).
Shirley is a native of Jacksonville where she lives with her husband of 37+ years and son.
Lori Scott - Sr. Marketing Coordinator
Lori joined the North Central Florida Business Center of the Principal Financial Group® in 2004. Lori provides administrative and marketing support to some of our top financial representatives. In addition, Lori assists our leadership team in monitoring achieving our Business Center production and service goals.
Lori has had the privilege of living in several places across the country while her husband, Tim, served in the United States Army. After retiring in 2007, they made Jacksonville, Florida their home. They have one son, Brandon who is currently serving in the Army.
Heidi Calahan - Sales Support Specialist
Heidi is the newest Sales Support Specialist joining the North Florida Business Center with the Principal Financial Group® in February 2015. Heidi brings with her, 20 years of banking experience and 12 years of Geological and Environmental Services. Heidi will be working with our financial representatives processing new business and assisting with client services.
Heidi moved to Jacksonville with her family in 1970 and has been in St. Augustine for the past 19 years. Heidi has a daughter attending UNF and a son who is currently pursuing a military career. She also lived aboard a sailboat with her family for 8 years and enjoys the water and marina life. Heidi is passionate about her family and enjoys baking, and running.
