What kind of life insurance do you really need?

Permanent life insurance2

Coverage that you can’t outlive as long as you pay your premiums. And you can build cash value to use while you’re alive in whatever way you see fit.

Term life insurance2

Coverage that lasts until a certain age or for a certain time period. Your policy might provide coverage from 1 to 30 years or more. After that time, you may have the choice to renew the policy or let the coverage end. Term insurance tends to be less expensive.

“I have enough life insurance coverage already.”

Reality: Do you know how long your family’s money would last if you weren’t there? A recent study shows one in three U.S. households would have immediate trouble paying living expenses following the loss of their primary wage earner.1

“I’m already covered at work.”

Reality: Coverage provided by your employer typically only offers protection up to a certain age. That’s called term insurance. This type usually provides a death benefit of only one to three time base salary, which may not be enough to cover your family’s future expenses.

“My spouse doesn’t work, so he or she doesn’t need life insurance.”
