Principal® is committed to providing a top-level insurance purchase experience for you and your clients. We’re building a more efficient new business platform for fully-underwritten life insurance and individual disability insurance (IDI)—designed to make the process faster, smoother, and with fewer touchpoints from beginning to end.

What can I expect?

Over time, a number of enhancements will be made to the technology and processes used to receive, manage, underwrite, and issue your business. The result will be a smoother new business journey for application receipt through policy delivery. And this dedicated website is your one-stop shop for keeping current on this upgrade program.

New business upgrade plan

Here's a summary of the updates.

Application submission
  • Make eApp or drop ticket available for all life and IDI products (IP)
  • Provide complete app package to reduce need to get forms signed outside the platform (NS)
  • Have data flow through from one application to the next when owner is the same (IP)
Case management
  • Enhance Pending Business Report – more interactivity and detailed vendor information and requirements (IP)
  • Streamline internal processes by automating routine tasks and requirement handling (IP)
  • Implement express processing for Term policies meeting specific guidelines (NS)
Underwriting
  • Modernize Accelerated Underwriting model (C)
  • Improve Electronic Health Record (EHR) process (NS)
     
Policy issue & delivery
  • Auto-issue policies are issued as applied for and in good order—this already applies to most IDI policies. (NS)
  • Make eDelivery available for all life and IDI products (IP)
  • Automate requirement processing (NS)

Recent enhancements

  • Q1 2026:
    • Added ability on Pending Business Report to upload documents to pending Life requirements' 
    • Enhanced privacy for business concept cases by redacting lifestyle and medical responses on Part B for Life policies
    • On Pending Business Report and follow-up emails, expanded note section for pending Life requirements to be able to provide more detailed information on what's needed
  • Q4 2025:
    • Updated iPipeline Drop Ticket to strengthen and streamline support for business concept cases
    • Added additional document types when uploading attachments to IDI eApp to ensure efficient and timely handling
  • Q3 2025:
    • Updated Pending Business Report to allow download of life insurance forms directly from the report and added a requirement note when the policy is to be eDelivered
    • Made eDelivery available for Principal Income Protector disability policies where the owner and insured are not the same person
    • For pending Life and IDI policies, added detailed exam and APS vendor status for orders placed by Principal
  • Q2 2025:
    • Made eDelivery available for the following Principal insurance products:
      • Principal Income Protector (excludes GSI) where owner and insured are the same person
      • Universal life and indexed universal life (not available when the permanent policy is issues as part of a term conversion)
    • Introduced Multi-Life Drop Ticket for Term life insurance – for business cases with multiple insureds and the same owner, submit a single ticket for all policies
    • Updated Exam Status emails
      • Examiner contact details are included, when available
      • Accurate appointment dates – when an updated appointment date is set, the email displays the new scheduled appointment date, rather than the date the appointment was confirmed
