Fund your Principal® SimpleInvest account

There are 2 different ways to add money:

Add money from your bank

Transfer money via ACH

  1. Log in to your Principal® SimpleInvest account
  2. Navigate to the Transactions tab.
  3. Select "Link a bank" and follow the instructions to link your bank account to your IRA, if you haven't done so already.
  4. Select "Transfer Funds" and then "Deposit."
  5. Enter the amount, frequency, transfer date, and contribution year.
  6. Click "Continue," review deposit details, and click "Confirm."

You will see the funds in your Principal® SimpleInvest account when the ACH is complete.

Mail a check

  1. Make a check payable to: Apex Clearing Corporation FBO [Your Name].
  2. Write your Principal® SimpleInvest account number on the memo line.
  3. Complete a Principal® SimpleInvest Deposit Slip.
  4. Mail the completed Deposit Slip and check to:
    Apex Clearing Corporation
    c/o Banking
    350 N St. Paul Street, Ste 1300
    Dallas, TX 75201

You will see the funds in your Principal® SimpleInvest account when the check and the deposit slip have been received.

Rollover or transfer another retirement account

Request a former employer's retirement account

  1. Contact your current provider to inform them you want to process a rollover and ask what their requirements are.
  2. Request your funds to be sent, by check made payable to: Apex Clearing Corporation FBO [Your Name] with your Principal® SimpleInvest account number in the memo line.
  3. Request the rollover check be mailed to:
    Apex Clearing Corporation Attn: Banking
    350 N St. Paul Street, Ste 1300
    Dallas, TX 75201
  4. Complete a Principal® SimpleInvest Deposit Slip.
    Make sure under Contribution Information the ** Rollover Contribution - Direct or 60-Day is marked.
  5. Upload the completed Deposit Slip to your online account or email it to AdvisedServices@principal.com.
    Refer to the below instructions to upload documents online.
    1. Login to your account at www.principal.com
    2. Select your Principal® SimpleInvest account
    3. Go to the documents tab
    4. Select Upload and upload documents to a new folder you create called "Rollover"

You will see the funds in your Principal® SimpleInvest account when the rollover check and deposit slip have been received.

Transfer an Individual Retirement Account (IRA)

  1. Contact the other financial institution and request your account to be liquidated to cash for an account transfer.
  2. Complete the Principal® SimpleInvest transfer form. Refer to instructions for completing the fields within this form.
    • Your Account Information section: Principal® SimpleInvest account information
      Account Title: name on your account as it appears on your statement
      APEX Clearing Number: Principal® SimpleInvest account number beginning with 8TA
    • Transferring Account Information section: account being transferred
      Account Title: should be listed the same as on your statement
      Transfer Type: Liquidate all assets & transfer in cash
  3. Upload the Principal® SimpleInvest transfer form and a copy of your most recent statement to your online account. Refer to these instructions to upload documents online.
    1. Login to your account at www.principal.com
    2. Select your Principal® SimpleInvest account
    3. Go to the Documents tab
    4. Select Upload and upload documents to a new folder you create called "Transfer In"
  4. We will work with the other financial institution to request the funds on your behalf and reach out to you if anything else is needed.

You will see the funds in your Principal® SimpleInvest account when the transfer is complete.
